Board Biography: Duane Ingram

Duane C. Ingram is a public interest professional with fifteen years of nonprofit and legislative experience. He has worked for a diverse array of organizations and institutions, including: the U.S. Senate; People for the American Way; the Charles F. Kettering Foundation; Citizens Commission on Civil Rights; and the Democratic National Committee (DNC). His areas of expertise are legislative and public policy, community outreach and advocacy, public education, and diversity, with an emphasis on racial minorities, women, and the LGBT community.

Mr. Ingram most recently served as vice president of programs at the Urban League of Philadelphia where he was responsible for public policy, education, youth and health initiatives, program development, government relations and community engagement. He also served as a vice president for Planned Parenthood in South Florida, where he oversaw public policy, government relations, issue advocacy, and community outreach.

Duane worked as the director of correspondence and constituent affairs for the Democratic National Committee during the Clinton Administration and was responsible for crafting messaging on legislation, policy and other initiatives. He was also a program manager on a civil rights initiative underwritten by the Ford and MacArthur Foundations aimed at providing parents, community activists and other concerned citizens with the knowledge and resources needed to promote local compliance around Title I, and to ensure that economically disadvantaged students are afforded a challenging and rigorous public education. His early professional experience included work as a legislative aide for U.S. Senator Harris Wofford (D, PA).

Mr. Ingram’s board and volunteer public service includes current membership on the board of directors of WOMEN’S WAY, the country’s oldest and largest women’s federation committed to ensuring public awareness to fight for and achieve women’s equality, safety, self-sufficiency and reproductive freedom through women-centered funding, advocacy and education. He is also on the board of InterAct Theatre, a Philadelphia-based theatre that examines social justice issues in contemporary society. He recently served as an executive committee member for Generation Obama-Philadelphia. Mr. Ingram is a current member of the Pennsylvania Society of Washington, DC, and is a 2009 Fellow of the DC-based Center for Progressive Leadership.

A graduate of Villanova University, Mr. Ingram currently resides in Philadelphia.
